Deputy Secretary for iTaukei Affairs Mr. Pita Tagicakirewa officially closed the three days Conservation Officers Bi-Annual Workshop/Training today (Friday 26 March 2021) at the Pearl Resort.

In his speech Mr. Tagicakirewa commended the great work that the Officers continued to do in promoting and coordinating conservation work in their respective Provinces.The workshop provided a platform for them to meet, discuss and design strategies to benefit our iTaukei communities with regards to their environment and natural resources.

Mr. Tagicakirewa urged the Conservation Officers to revive and encourage solesolevaki, a traditional practice in building a resilient community and promote traditional iTaukei practices that help contextualise disaster resilience in the iTaukei communities.  He added that proper training and awareness will enhance the communities resilience to all forms of disaster.

He acknowledged the UNDP - GEF 6 Invasive Alien Species Project  for - co - funding the 3 days workshop, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (Project National Implementation Partner), SPC - Pacific Adaption to Climate Change and Resilience Building and  the iTaukei Institute of iTaukei Language and Culture for their support and partnership in the workshop.
