The Child Protection program for the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs started in 2011 after the Ministry signed the Multiyear rollout work plan with UNICEF. The agreement was to conduct awareness on the Convention on the rights of a child in the 1,171 villages in Fiji across the fourteen provinces. The ministry in 2013 conducted a workshop with the Roko Tui’s to determine the scope of the training and an output of this was to contextualize the training manual to the understanding of our targeted audience.
In 2015, our MTA contextualized package called “Na gone nai solisoli talei ni Kalou” was launched and printed and training was conducted in the province of Cakaudrove.
Our Manual was reviewed in 2017 and the validation training was conducted in 2018 in the village of Lomanikoro in the province of Rewa. On the 12th of December the Permanent Secretary Mr Meleti Bainimarama hosted a meeting with Chief of Child Protection Ms Brigette Sonnois to deliberate on our Child Protection program.
The Ministry is also member of the NCCC – which is the National Coordination Committee on Children.
