Welcome to the Website of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.
From our regular travels to the uttermost rugged mountainous terrains of the 14 provinces of Fiji including testy boat trips in not-so-calm oceans to reach the iTaukei communities in the maritime zones, my Ministry staff and I are constantly oriented to the Bula Vaka iTaukei (iTaukei way of life) with new appreciations. While we recognise there are many challenges, as there are unresolved problems, and difficulties, there is an equal expression of joyous smiles and the relentless hospitality, the great wealth of traditional knowledge; richness of different culture surrounded by pristine environment which often tone over the adversities.
Our Vision of a Prosperous Vanua for a Better Fiji is tied to our mission to build strong leadership for the Vanua; to develop the relevant policies, programmes and legislations; to strengthen partnerships with our stakeholders; to coordinate capacity building initiatives; and to empower the iTaukei through appropriate institutional framework of governance.
To enhance the vision and missions, the Ministry in 2016, extended its physical global reach to iTaukei diaspora in Australia, New Zealand, and England, through public consultations. The Ministry is extending its mission this fiscal year (2017 – 2018) to reach out to iTaukei communities in the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada through a series of overseas roadshows where our core services of ensuring the registration of all iTaukei children into the Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB) aka Register of Native Landowners, will be one of the many features.
Further, the promotion of iTaukei culture, the transference of traditional knowledge and the revival of cultural skills will be addressed.
In all our missions whether local or overseas, there is a passionate hunger for information and connectivity which we hope to address through this Website. Nonetheless, our hope is to develop it further to become interactive in order to meet the growing global demands.
Happy browsing and we would welcome your Feedbacks.
